A man has died after being found unresponsive in the water at Sydney’s Freshwater Beach.
The incident unfolded just after midday on Thursday when beachgoers noticed the man floating in the ocean pool at the northern end of the beach.
He was believed to be in his 60s.
Members of the public managed to drag him from the water and immediately began performing CPR while waiting for emergency crews to arrive.
A NSW Ambulance helicopter carrying a specialist medical team was dispatched to the scene as police and Surf Life Saving NSW personnel continued efforts to resuscitate the man.
Paramedics later took over, but despite extended attempts the man could not be revived.
Police moved quickly to secure the pool area and the nearby rock platform with crime scene tape.
