It’s hard to know what to make of the video.
The video is a little more than a minute long. It details a melee at Merschel Plaza last Wednesday in which a uniformed cop is assaulted, the guy who did it gets taken to the concrete, a bystander in a suit runs across Fourth Street to pull another guy off the officer and a rapid response by police.
It's not the video that gives pause. Instead, it’s what happened in the aftermath of the incident, which is one of more than 400 police have responded to in the immediate vicinity since May 1, including a murder, drug dealing, more than a dozen assaults and various other small-time offenses.
In response, city officials removed tables, chairs and a $16,000 electronics charging table paid for by the Winston-Salem Foundation.
