Four people were injured in a vehicle ramming and stabbing attack outside a synagogue in northwestern England on Thursday, police said. The suspect in the incident was shot by armed officers.
Greater Manchester Police confirmed that the attacker targeted worshippers near the Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation but was unable to gain entry into the synagogue. The attack took place around 9:30 am, coinciding with Yom Kippur, the holiest day in the Jewish calendar, when synagogues typically see large gatherings.
Police said they received a call at 9:31 am reporting that “a car was being driven towards members of the public, and one man had been stabbed.” Armed officers arrived within minutes and shot the suspect at 9:38 am.
