CORSICANA, Texas — A fire overnight at a Corsicana women's shelter displaced 13 people, including eight children, officials said.

Overnight Thursday, five adults and eight children were displaced from Compassion Corsicana Women's Shelter, according to residents on the scene. The fire rendered the shelter uninhabitable, fire officials said.

The shelter provided help to women who need temporary shelter or are escaping a dangerous domestic violence, residents on the scene said. Compassion Corsicana also runs a food pantry and provides rental assistance.
