Keir Starmer has said he is 'appalled' by an attack at a synagogue in north Manchester this morning (October 3), and is flying back to the UK to chair an emergency Cobra meeting.

The Prime Minister had been in Denmark for a meeting of European leaders. Instead he will now return home after four people were injured when a car was driven at members of the public on Middleton Road, Crumpsall.

Greater Manchester Police said it had “declared Plato” – a national code-word used by police and emergency services when responding to a potential terror attack.

Starmer said he is “appalled” by the attack, adding: “The fact that this has taken place on Yom Kippur, the holiest day in the Jewish calendar, makes it all the more horrific.”
