COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) - The City of Cayce Fire Department and others are responding to a hazmat incident.
The City of Cayce Fire Department and other responding agencies are currently managing an active hazardous materials situation at Crystal Clean, located at 627 Poplar Street in Cayce.
Officials say potassium hydroxide and sodium hydroxide were accidentally mixed with cooking oil, causing chemical off-gassing and a tanker to become warm to the touch.
Multiple homes in the immediate area are being evacuated. All residents within a one-fourth-mile radius should evacuate. The City of Cayce police and fire are helping with evacuations.
City of Columbia and Lexington County Hazardous Materials Teams are working with Cayce on the scene.
