ATLANTA — An Atlanta-based journalist is facing deportation after the U.S. Court of Appeals denied his request to stay in the United States.
Mario Guevara , a Spanish-language reporter, was arrested while covering the 'No Kings' protest in DeKalb County in June. His charges were later dropped, but he was placed in ICE detention.
Representatives for Guevara said he's being targeted for his reporting on immigration issues. The Eleventh Circuit Court acknowledged Guevara's First Amendment rights to report on the protest, but said in this case, he did not file the proper immigration paperwork.
The Emmy-winning journalist is now at risk of being sent back to El Salvador, his home country.
