LANSING, Mich. — Customers receiving their natural gas service from Consumers Energy should expect larger monthly bills after the Michigan Public Service Commission (MPSC) approved a rate hike Tuesday.

The commission approved an additional $157,495,000 in revenue from its ratepayers, which equates to an about 8.1% increase, or $6.44 more per month for a typical residential customer, according to the MPSC.

MPSC said Consumers initially requested $248 million in additional revenue, which was later lowered to $217 million before the final amount of $157.5 million was approved.

The Commission also approved investment priorities proposed by Consumers Energy, which include:
