Being a remake of a cinematic classic, Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Devdas (2002) was destined for grandeur, but behind the shimmering visuals and iconic performances lay countless challenges. Recently, celebrated designer duo Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla, who created the film’s elaborate costumes, shared never-heard-before tales from the sets while appearing on The Namrata Zakaria Show on YouTube.
“Working on Devdas Was a Nightmare”
Recalling their early years in Bollywood, Abu Jani revealed how professionalism was often lacking. “In those days, payments were delayed, schedules were chaotic, and everything revolved around the hero. Even by 2002, Devdas was a nightmare we had to constantly stay ready with costumes,” he shared.
His partner Sandeep Khosla echoed both admiration and exhaustion.
