Spirit Airlines has notified the state's Labor and Economy Opportunity division that it will lay off 103 flight attendants at the Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport starting Dec. 1, according to a WARN notice .
The furlough is expected to be temporary, the airline said in the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification , but added the company is unsure how long it will last. The layoffs are set to take place Dec. 1, or within 14 days of that date, according to the notice.
Spirit filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection on Aug. 29 and announced a restructuring plan that called for a reduced presence in certain markets .
Spirit Airlines serves Detroit Metropolitan Airport in Michigan.
The affected employees are represented by the Association of Flight Attendants.
