Palm Springs now has a downtown police substation, a satellite office the police department hopes will foster community connections and increase convenience for residents and tourists.

The Palm Springs Police Department hosted a grand opening at the substation on Tuesday, Sept. 30, at the Downtown Park, just outside the station's front doors.

"This is meaningful, because we recognize the importance of all of our downtown businesses, of all of our community members, and even those who are in desperate need," Police Chief Andy Mills said during the ceremony. "Our job is to help this community, further this community and enable this community to be successful."
