DOTHAN, Ala (WDHN) -- The second case of rabies in Houston County in 2025 has been confirmed.

Houston County Health Department officials say a raccoon found on Hodgesville Road on September 30 tested positive for rabies.

A local resident's dog fought with the raccoon in their yard.

The dog has been vaccinated for rabies and there was no known human exposure.

In April, a bat tested positive for rabies in Houston County.
