MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) - A Democratic candidate for Wisconsin governor released a statement this week as he continues his gubernatorial run.

Zachary Roper, 22, is a student studying political science at Carthage College.

Roper announced in May he would be running for governor, before Gov. Tony Evers had announced he would not run for reelection . Roper said he was planning on running either way.

“As the youngest candidate in this race, I am committed to putting forward a fresh perspective and addressing the issues that matter most to Wisconsin residents, including improving schools, increasing teacher pay, and ensuring every citizen has a voice in state government,” Roper said in a statement.

Roper previously ran for Wisconsin State Assembly to represent the 84th Assembly District.
