TULSA, Okla. — Oklahoma Gov. Kevin Stitt on Tuesday announced the appointment of longtime educator Lindel Fields as the state’s new superintendent of education, calling it the start of a “new day” for public schools.

The announcement was made during an event at Eisenhower International School in Tulsa, where Stitt stated that the leadership change represents a shift in focus for the Department of Education.

“This appointment is important, not just because it marks new leadership, but because it also signifies a mindset shift,” Stitt said. “If we’re going to be top 10 in everything we do, we need to be top 10 in education.”
