FLINT, MI -- The city attorney has been authorized to settle a lawsuit tied to a 2020 crash in which a police officer‘s vehicle crashed into a bicyclist while driving more than twice the speed limit without a siren activated.

Flint City Council members granted City Attorney JoAnne Gurley settlement authority up to $3 million in the case -- the amount the city would have to pay before its insurance policy coverage would take effect -- during a meeting last week.

They approved the settlement authority after meeting in a closed session to discuss the case filed against the city by Kenneth Cameron, the guardian and conservator for his brother Donald Cameron, who suffered multiple fractures and a traumatic brain injury as a result of the accident, according to the lawsuit.
