The National Guard appears one step closer to being deployed to New Orleans.
In an email sent to New Orleans City Council members Thursday morning, Superintendent Anne Kirkpatrick shared plans for a meeting with National Guard leaders, Louisiana State Police Superintendent Robert Hodges, and Governor Jeff Landry on October 3. Advertisement
“I have informed the Mayor. I will provide updates as they develop,” Kirkpatrick said in the email, which WDSU obtained from sources.
The potential deployment comes after Gov. Landry requested National Guard troops to be deployed across the state to address crime concerns.
Landry submitted the request to Secretary of War Pete Hegseth to activate up to 1,000 Louisiana National Guard personnel.
