AGAWAM, Mass. (WWLP) - Western Massachusetts is experiencing worsening drought conditions, with most of the region now classified as abnormally dry or in moderate drought, according to the latest U.S. Drought Monitor.
The dry conditions have persisted despite some rainfall last week, which was not sufficient to alleviate the drought situation. Meteorologist Chris Bouzakis noted that while September saw some rain, it was not enough to significantly impact the drought status.
"August and September ended up being below average rainfall," said 22News Storm Team Meteorologist Chris Bouzakis. "We actually caught up a little bit in September with the rain that we saw last week, which was Thursday last week, but it wasn't enough to really help us with the drought."
