OTTUMWA, Iowa —

An officer who dedicated more than 30 years of service to the Ottumwa Police Department retired Tuesday.

Throughout Officer Mike Murphy's tenure, he held various roles and made significant contributions to the community. Murphy worked all three patrol shifts, served as a field training officer, and was a Gang Resistance Education and Training (GREAT) instructor. He also served as the department's evidence officer for eight years and Drug Abuse Resistance Education (DARE) instructor for more than two and a half decades.
