MANTEO, N.C. — The Dare County Sheriff's Office said a Manteo police officer shot and killed an "armed subject" on Thursday.
Deputies said Dare County EMS received a 911 call around 4:15 p.m. for a crime in progress in the 200 block of Mother Vineyard Road in Manteo. Both the sheriff's office and Manteo police officer responded to the scene.
When Manteo police officers arrived first, they were "confronted by an armed subject, and an officer discharged their firearm," the sheriff's office said. Life-saving measures were performed on the person, but they died on the scene.
The Dare County Sheriff's Office and the Manteo Police Department requested that the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation investigate the incident.
