NORFOLK, Va. — Election Day in Virginia is a little more than a month away on November 4. A new poll from Emerson College found the Democratic gubernatorial candidate, Abigail Spanberger, is up ten points over the Republican candidate and current lieutenant governor, Winsome Earle-Sears.

Many commercial breaks on the air are filled with advertisements from both campaigns taking jabs at one another. Now, in a government shutdown, both candidates are using it to get a leg up in the race.

It's a move that 13News Now political analyst Dr. Leslie Caughell said could impact votes.
