TOLEDO, Ohio — Dr. Jane Goodall, one of the world’s most influential scientists and conservationists, has died at 91 , the institute in her name announced on Wednesday.

Her groundbreaking work studying chimpanzees in Tanzania transformed the world’s understanding of the animals and inspired generations to protect the planet.

For Toledo Zoo zookeeper Anne Overly, Goodall’s influence runs deep.

“Jane Goodall was probably one of the most incredible forces for good we’ve seen in this world,” Overly said.

Overly says Goodall’s determination broke barriers and opened doors for women in science, especially in fields once dominated by men.
