CLEVELAND, Ohio — When the new Trailhead Community Health Foundation of Greater Akron — funded by the sale of Summa Health — begins making grants, it will join a number of Northeast Ohio charitable foundations that got their start from the proceeds of a hospital sale.
The Mount Sinai Health Foundation has roots in the former Mount Sinai Health Care System. And after the old Deaconess Hospital closed, the Deaconess Community Foundation continued supporting the Old Brooklyn neighborhood.
Other charitable foundations with similar roots include Barberton Community Foundation, St. Luke’s Foundation and the Sisters of Charity Foundation of Cleveland.
