BENTON, Ark. — A Benton man and his wife are pleading for his immigration status nearly five months after his wrongful arrest set off a series of events that landed him in an ICE detention facility.

Kapil Raghu was arrested by Benton police officers on May 3 in the parking lot of a Circle K gas station on South Street.

Bodycam video from the scene obtained by THV11 shows that officers believed Raghu had an illegal substance in his vehicle.

“You got a vial of opium that was in your center console,” Officer Tyler Freshour is heard telling Raghu in the video. “Go and take a seat.”

In the incident report from May 3, 2025, Freshour wrote that he initially pulled Raghu over due to his ‘reflective license plate cover.’
