Russian military experts suggest Ukrainian drone attacks on the Black Sea resort of Sochi overnight may have been a bid to eliminate Vladimir Putin . The Russian leader was present in the city delivering an anti-Western speech whilst defending his ongoing conflict. ‌

The drone assault resulted in the airport's closure for five hours and triggered air raid warnings throughout the night following Putin's Thursday evening appearance at the Valdai Discussion Club. ‌
