The remnants of a dam on Nine Mile Creek were demolished last week, allowing water to flow freely from the creek’s lower stretch to Onondaga Lake for the first time in 120 years.
Built in 1905, the dam was located in the town of Camillus, just above the bridge where NY 173/Warners Road crosses over Nine Mile Creek in Amboy.
“Thanks to the collaborative work by New York State, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Nine Mile Creek now flows free, no longer blocked by the former Amboy Dam,” said Dereth Glance, Department of Environmental Conservation Regional Director.
