BUXTON, N.C. (WAVY) -- Around two dozen staff members at Cape Hatteras National Seashore will be assisting with the cleanup on Friday after eight homes collapsed into the ocean in Buxton throughout the week.
According to a release, the cleanup efforts will focus on collecting debris between the southern end of Buxton and Cape Point in order to both protect National Park Service resources and to ensure the safety of visitors to the area.
As a result of the collapses, the beachfront from northern Buxton to the off-road vehicle ramp 43 has been closed. Visitors are also urged to avoid both debris and houses in the water in the area of Buxton and Rodanthe, as further collapses are still possible.
The eighth collapse Thursday evening marks the 20th house collapse on the Outer Banks since 202
