The leader of Bristol City Council has issued a plea for unity in the face of what he describes as "increasing tension on our streets". Tony Dyer's message came in the wake of Thursday's horrific attack at a synagogue in Manchester , in which two people were murdered.

"Like people up and down the country we are devastated by the news from Manchester about a fatal attack outside a synagogue, on Yom Kippur, the most sacred day in the Jewish calendar," Cllr Dyer said.
