A former next-door neighbour of Jihad Al-Shamie has described how his sons used to play with the synagogue terrorist when he was a child.

It is understood Al-Shamie, 35 grew up on Delaunays Road in Crumpsall, with his two brothers and parents.

The road, close to North Manchester General Hospital, lies barely a mile from where he was shot dead by armed police after carrying out a deadly attack on Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation synagogue on Thursday morning (October 2).

Former neighbour Brian Smith, who has lived on the street for more than 30 years, told the Manchester Evening News how Al-Shamie used to play with his son when they were boys.
