Sales of the Calumet Region-made Explorer sales are the strongest they've been been in seven years.
In the third quarter, Ford reports a 33% increase in sales of the Explorer SUV and a 20.8% drop in Lincoln Aviator Sales. Both vehicles are made at the Chicago Assembly Plant on the far South Side and served by local suppliers like the Lear Corp. seat factory in Hammond.
Overall, Ford and Lincoln sales rose by 8.2% to 545,522 units in the third quarter, up from 504,039 units during the same time last year.
