A nursing home carer who was "like a daughter" to a dementia sufferer has revealed she is 'ashamed' over her actions after stealing thousands of pounds from the elderly resident.

For around six months, carer, Amelia Doran, 51, was secretly drawing thousands of pounds of cash from an 86-year-old woman's bank account.

When Doran was confronted by a colleague, she confessed to the stealing from the woman, stating: "I've taken advantage of a beautiful lady."

She told her co-worker the reason for her thievery was due to her 'needing to pay a bill,' with Doran's actions marking the second time the elderly woman had been victim to individuals stealing from her.
