MANHATTAN, N.Y. (PIX11) -- Halloween is just around the corner, but before we put on our scary costumes, it's tradition here in New York City to let our four-legged friends show us how it's done.

The Tompkins Square Halloween dog parade is returning to the East Village, marking its 35th anniversary.

The event runs from 1 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 19. The parade is organized by the nonprofit New York Dog Parade, founded by Fern Watt.

The event is free to attend; however, those wishing to participate in the parade and costume competition must pre-register.

Advanced registration begins on Oct. 6 and is available on a first-come, first-served basis.
