THE BRONX, N.Y. (PIX11) -- A Bronx family’s nightmare has turned into relief after PIX11’s Monica Morales got involved.

The DeJesus family at the Highbridge Gardens houses had been living in fear as hornets took over 15-year-old Lucas Rivera’s bedroom, who lives with autism. He couldn’t sleep for weeks until PIX11 stepped in.

After Morales’ story aired, NYCHA immediately moved the family to a safe temporary apartment while their home undergoes repairs.

Queens teacher Lauren Lucksavage is a winner of the Julian Robertson Award for Excellence in Teaching. They are taking applications til the end of October.
