CADILLAC — The City of Cadillac has received a grant from the Department of Home Security to go towards radios for the fire department.

During fiscal year 2024, the Department of Homeland Security allocated $291,600,000 for 2,000 awards as part of the Assistance to Firefighters Grant program.

According to a press release from the city, the Cadillac Fire Department and its firefighters rely upon radio communications to manage daily emergency responses.

Recently, Cadillac firefighters have been working with portable radios that had reached the end of their service lives and were failing at alarming rates. This left the Fire Department struggling to purchase much-needed radios without compromise.
