LIHUE (HawaiiNewsNow) - Kauai firefighters rescued a 31-year-old hiker Thursday who suffered heat stroke on Kalalau Trail.
Firefighters aboard Air 1 responded at around 4:30 p.m. and found the hiker, a visitor from Wisconsin, near the 1.5-mile landing zone.
Good Samaritans had administered initial first aid before firefighters arrived, fire officials said.
Fire officials said the hiker was then carried to the Hanakapiai Stream and loaded into a rescue helicopter.
Rescuers flew the hiker to Princeville Airport, where American Medical Response paramedics took over medical care, according to KFD.
The scene was cleared by 6:30 p.m.
