TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) - Sun Van, the paratransit service that helps riders with disabilities get around, unveiled 50 new vehicles on Friday.
That included five electric vans, the company’s latest effort to increase sustainable transportation options, with the help of a $15 million grant.
The five new all-electric vans are a part of a pilot program and make up less than 5% of Sun Van’s total fleet. Tucson’s Chief Resilience Officer Fatima Luna said the investment represents something bigger.
“The transportation sector can be clean, but also inclusive and sustainable over the long term,” Luna said.
Luna said transportation makes up 43% of Tucson’s greenhouse gas emissions.
That’s why the city has set a goal to reach net-zero emissions and transition 90% of its fleet to battery-p
