VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) -- A man charged with causing a deadly crash back in August was previously deported from the United States, according to prosecutors.

Erwin Marroquin-Herrera, 26, was arrested Aug. 23 and charged with manslaughter and DUI in the death of Steven White II, 37, of Norfolk.

Marroquin-Herrera was driving southbound in the northbound lanes of London Bridge Road around 2:15 a.m. when he stuck White's vehicle head-on, according to Virginia Beach Police.

He admitted on scene to drinking two beers and four shots of tequila before the crash, according to a criminal complaint.

During a bond hearing, it was revealed Marroquin-Herrera was an illegal immigrant from Guatemala, according to Macie Allen, a spokesperson for Virginia Beach's commonwealth's attorney.
