LINCOLN, Neb. —

Lincoln police are investigating an apparent murder-suicide.

On Friday around 10:45 a.m., officers were called for a welfare check at a residence in the area of 14th and Sumner streets.

LPD said there was "an urgent need to go inside the home" to ensure the safety of those inside, but as they entered the residence, they found a man and woman dead on the floor in a bedroom.

According to Lincoln police, both of the deceased had multiple gunshot wounds.

Both of the victims were 51 years old, and their identities are being withheld until next of kin have been been notified.

According to LPD, the injuries and evidence at the scene led them to investigate the deaths as a murder-suicide.

Officials do not believe there is a threat to the public.
