AXTELL, Texas — The Axtell Longhorns put together a dominant performance Friday night, rolling past the Valley Mills Eagles 35-7 in KCEN’s Game of the Week.

It was the Longhorns’ defense that set the tone early, staying aggressive and forcing the Eagles into mistakes all night. After both offenses stalled on their opening drives, Axtell quarterback Levi Leathers sparked the scoring with a scramble into the end zone to make it 7-0.

In the second quarter, Leathers connected with a wide-open A.J. Fetsch to put Axtell up 14-0. Moments later, the defense came up big when Jasean Johnson was stripped of the football, and linebacker Jesse Hernandez pounced on the loose ball. The turnover set Axtell up with great field position, and the Longhorns quickly capitalized to stretch the lead to 21-0.
