A Supreme Court action has been launched in a bid to stop a pro-Palestine rally scheduled for the Sydney Opera House on October 12.

Police attempted to negotiate with rally organisers, advising them to consider an alternative location.

But organisers declined, insisting the Opera House would remain the site of the protest.

NSW Police Assistant Commissioner Peter McKenna said, “We understand that this is a significant anniversary for probably both sides in relation to this".

"There’s heightened public emotions around this," he said.

NSW Police have cited public safety concerns.

Pro-Palestine protestors gathered at the Opera House in 2023, when the rally turned chaotic and antisemitic chants were reportedly heard.
