Teesside Live readers have joined with a Middlesbrough resident in criticising the long-running temporary lane closure on a busy stretch of Ladgate Lane. Tom Allan described the site as “like the Mary Celeste,” saying he had never seen anyone working there during his visits.

Recalling the traffic delays, Mr Allan said: “I myself was hit with it once, obviously you learn that lesson – never again!” He noted the temporary traffic lights have been in place for “probably about eight to ten weeks.”

Initially, only the usual road signs were displayed, with no explanation for the lights. Some explanatory signs were later installed after discussions with MICA Councillor Brian Hubbard, whose ward covers the affected section.
