A state pension perk could be scrapped for all claimants because "everyone agrees". The Department for Work and Pensions, or DWP , is under fresh pressure to drop the Triple Lock pledge, which has been long-standing and in existence since 2010.

Sam Brodbeck, writing in the Telegraph, explained: " Everyone agrees the triple lock must go – but Britain can’t afford not to have it."

It comes after the Institute for Fiscal Studies said the triple lock – which means the state pension rises each April by the highest of average wages, inflation or 2.5pc – should be scrapped.
