Federal officers shot an armed person who was among 10 drivers that rammed agents' vehicles on Saturday morning in Chicago, the Department of Homeland Security said.
The shooting was reported at around 10:30 a.m. near the intersection of South California Avenue and West 35th Street in the city's Brighton Park neighborhood. DHS Assistant Secretary for Public Affairs Tricia McLaughlin said agents were conducting routine patrols on Saturday morning, when they were rammed by 10 cars and "boxed in."
"Agents were unable to move their vehicle and exited the car," she said in a statement, in part.
McLaughlin said one of the drivers who rammed a law enforcement vehicle was armed with a semi-automatic weapon, and law enforcement was "forced to deploy their weapons and fire defensive shots."
