STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Eighth-grade students at the Jewish Foundation School are participating in a groundbreaking educational experience that connects them directly with Holocaust survivors, as part of the nationally acclaimed oral history initiative, “Names, Not Numbers.”

The Staten Island program, in its second second year, officially launched on Sept. 29 with a kickoff event at the Jewish Foundation School. The program is a unique three-way partnership between the Bernikow JCC of Staten Island, the Jewish Foundation School, and the Wagner College Holocaust Center.

The opening event featured remarks from the Jewish Foundation School Principal Ruth Garber, Dr. Lori Weintrob, executive director of the Holocaust Center at Wagner College, and Amelia Winter, representing the Bernikow JCC.
