The Northampton Fire Department stated that crews were called to the area of Lyman Road following an automatic alarm at the residence. All units were then sent to the home after the department received a call reporting alarms and smoke showing in the apartment.

When firefighters initially arrived in the area, no fire or smoke was visible other than an odor, but heavy smoke and fire soon began to appear in the back of the building. Crews quickly put out the fire, limiting damage to a single apartment.
