A woman was stabbed during a fight at a north Winnipeg home while trying to protect a pregnant woman from a man armed with a knife, police say.

The two women and the man were at a mutual friend's house in the 400 block of Alfred Avenue — between Andrews and Aikins streets, in the William Whyte neighbourhood — around 2 p.m. Friday when an argument broke out between the man and the pregnant woman, Winnipeg police said in a news release.

When the argument escalated, the man armed himself with a knife and tried to stab the visibly pregnant woman, according to police.
