Windy conditions have been moving through the state today. Even though we saw relatively calm surface winds at Balloon Fiesta Park this morning, winds just above the surface were to strong for balloons to actually take off. A static display was still possible with mild temperatures though. Throughout the day, winds have really picked up, with some areas seeing 50+ mph wind gusts. Heading toward sunset, these winds will calm down significantly.

Much lighter winds look to be in place Sunday morning, bringing a near picture-perfect set up for Day 2 of Balloon Fiesta with a light northeasterly drainage wind. A box effect may even set up Sunday morning! Winds will be lighter in the afternoon and evening too.
