BROOKLYN, N.Y. (PIX11) -- A heartbreaking scene unfolded overnight in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, where two young girls lost their lives in what police believe was a subway surfing incident.

The tragedy occurred at the Marcy Avenue/Broadway subway station, sparking renewed concern among city officials and transit safety advocates.

According to NYPD investigators, the incident happened around 3 a.m. when the girls—believed to be between the ages of 13 and 15—were found unconscious on the tracks. They were pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities say the teens were likely attempting to ride on top of a moving train when the accident occurred.
