OLD SAYBROOK, Conn. (WTNH) — October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and on Saturday, neighbors in Old Saybrook participated in the 20th annual "Walk for the Cure."
The walk was organized in part by the Terri Brodeur Breast Cancer Foundation.
"They wanted to start a foundation that funded breast cancer research," Kate Davis, operations director of the Terri Brodeur Breast Cancer Foundation said. "They didn't want to buy pink products, they didn't want to do other things that are possible. They wanted to fund breast cancer research, they wanted to end breast cancer."
Community members could participate in marathon, half-marathon and 5-K courses.
Organizers said the walk has raised over $7 million in the 20 years it's been around.
