ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB) - One week after 27-year-old Ra’Kel Morris was gunned down outside Super Daqx, his family gathered on October 3 for a balloon release in his honor. His mother, Tekedra Dupar, said sharing their story is about more than grief; it is about urging young people to put down the guns.

“I just want to see these young people stop the violence,” she said.

Morris was at the club celebrating his sister’s 35th birthday when shots rang out. His family said they never imagined the night would end in tragedy. Charles Dupar, whom Morris called Dad, expressed anger at the venue.

“Too many young people have been killed there. And for them to throw a party the next night after our son was killed, it was total disrespect,” He said. “I promise you, I’ll be the one to shut that down
