Leeds United’s unbeaten home streak came to a sodden end on a wet afternoon yesterday with two deflected strikes condemning them to their first league defeat at Elland Road in more than a year. Pascal Struijk must be cursing his luck.

He had good intentions by trying to block the ball both times, sliding in to prevent the shots, but saw them deflect off his leg and ripple the net. The return to the Premier League always threatened to end the fantastic home run and it is no shame to go down to a Champions League side.

Thomas Frank said Leeds played well but, as Daniel Farke reiterated , Leeds need to turn these performances into points. Eight points after seven games is not a bad return but the Whites need to make sure they don’t rue missed opportunities in May.
